Wise Factoring is run by myself, Phil Murphy (That’s me in the videos) and my wife I-Ling. We have two sons that were five and two years old when we started our business. As many of you will know, starting a business is hard at the best of times, but having two young children and a mortgage to pay certainly keeps you focussed! 

I’m from Glamorgan in South Wales, I-Ling is from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. We go back to visit our family there whenever we can and always try to visit somewhere nearby. The last few trips have included excursions to Thailand, Australia and more recently Vietnam.

As a business, we try to be as helpful as possible and provide as much information as we can. We set up a YouTube channel in 2020 and have created over 20 short, informative videos all about Invoice Finance. It’s quite a challenge trying to deliver the information, I don’t see any of the videos going viral anytime soon! Hopefully some of you have found the information that you were looking for and that will lead us to having a conversation if you ever need any advice.

Our company provides valuable work experience for business and management undergraduates and postgraduates. Over the last few years, we have given over 30 work placements and other project work to students from Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff University, The University of South Wales and Swansea University. This gives the next generation a valuable experience, learning all about cash flow management and financial products, understanding how to study balance sheets and putting together lists of potential businesses they think we should reach out to. It has also been very valuable for us, meeting these intelligent, hard-working, and ambitious young people is very rewarding and they certainly know all about social media!

I have given several lectures on business finance at the Universities, which I really enjoy doing. I’ve also helped some of the students find graduate roles within the funders on our lending panel. That is probably what I am most proud of. I can wholeheartedly recommend offering work experience to University Students in your area, you may find a star before they have entered the job market.
